LPGA/EWGA Alliance

LPGA Women Who Play
Eastern Shore of MD/DE Chapter
As most of you may know, we have a new name! We are now LPGA Women Who Play. Our new website address is: eshore.lpgawomenwhoplay.com. Please bookmark this in your favorites. If you use the former address, it will automatically point to the new one. This re-direct will remain in effect for the next several months.
So, what does all of this mean to you?
This alliance doesn’t change anything we do as a Chapter. It does provide the strength of the LPGA as they work with us to remain committed to the EWGA’s core membership, golf and event experiences, now powered by the LPGA brand.
Mike Whan, LPGA Commissioner, said, “We have the same mission and that is to bring women into the game of golf. I don’t care if you play competitively, for work events or just for fun, you are important to this alliance and we want you to play and stay. With the resources and global reach of the LPGA and the passion and commitment of EWGA, I believe we have what it takes to make women’s golf bigger, stronger and better for decades to come.”
In the coming weeks, you will see us replace the EWGA logo with our new logo on the website, newsletter, facebook and all other written communication. We’ve also taken this opportunity to change our tagline to incorporate our Delaware membership which is now almost half of our total members.
We hope you are as excited as we are about this new venture! Please reach out to any Board Member with questions, concerns or comments.

Our Charities

Giving Back

LPGA Women Who Play – Eastern Shore MD/DE Chapter is a successful organization and that is all due to our many, many volunteers and our membership, which grows every year.

We raise money for one large charity, the American Cancer Society, with a Pink Ball Week held in August of each year and our long-running Pink Ribbon Classic Golf Tournament held in October of each year. It’s time we gave back a little more. So, we are adding two more charities—one in Sussex County, Delaware and one in Worcester County, Maryland.

What is Your Voice – Sussex County

What is Your Voice, Inc.? Peer Support Advocates empower women and children to live violence-free lives. The objective of this organization is to reduce the risk of women or children repeating the cycle of violence or fleeing from violent homes, becoming a statistic of poverty, homelessness, addiction or human trafficking. They provide a holistic approach of healing through intensive aftercare for the whole person--Body, Soul and Spirit--while breaking the cycle of violence within Sussex County, Delaware.

The focus is a holistic view of the initial needs of victims in full crisis, providing support in the journey through the courts or requiring long-term care. They target stabilization in all forms, removal of isolation for community connection, empowerment and economic self-sufficiency. They address financial and health needs, isolation, trauma, PTSD, educational direction or employment, housing needs for temporary shelter and entrance into rental situations.

Diakonia – Worcester County

Diakonia operates two locations in West Ocean City, Maryland where it provides emergency and transitional housing, emergency food services, and counseling and assistance for its residents. More than just a shelter, the organization attempts to address the root causes of homelessness through a variety of programs and initiatives.

For those who are in danger of becoming homeless, for whatever reason, Diakonia offers counseling, guidance and assistance in accessing a wide variety of support programs and, where necessary and appropriate, financial assistance for certain housing-related costs. For those who are homeless, Diakonia offers a roof over their heads as well as counseling and support in addressing the issues that contributed to homelessness in the first place.  Diakonia also operates a food pantry that provides food assistance to hundreds of needy families every month.

The source of our contributions to these wonderful organizations will come from our 50/50 contests that we hold throughout the year at many of our events. Half of the money that normally goes into our ‘account’ will be spread equally between these two charities.

History of the Eastern Shore Chapter

Back in 1996, there were many corporate golf outings being held at the courses in Ocean City and surrounding areas of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, but the players were mostly men.  There were hundreds of women who aspired to play in corporate outings but just didn't feel their 'game' was up to par.

Nancy Dofflemyer saw this as an opportunity to bring the game of golf to the Women of the Eastern Shore.

The first membership meeting of the Eastern Shore Chapter of EWGA was held on August 14, 1996, at River Run Golf Course.

In September of 1997, our chapter celebrated its one-year anniversary.  We exceeded our fifty person membership goal and were recognized by National EWGA as one of the four chapters who surpassed its renewal membership rate of seventy percent.

Also in 1997, our chapter was the pioneer in teaming up with the American Cancer Society and held a successful golf tournament, surpassing a goal of $15,000, with all proceeds going toward the fight against breast cancer.

Today, our chapter continues to pursue the same goals that were set by our Board back in 1996.  One of the major goals being:  "To create opportunities for women of every ability level to bond, network and enjoy the game of golf."

We currently maintain a strong membership that exceeds 300 and work diligently to promote leagues, clinics and social events to bring more women into our organization.
