Welcome to the 2017 Season of the Delaware Travel League!

General Info To Get You Started:

  • Our first day of play for the season is Thursday, May 4th, at The Rookery North.
  • We will have two leagues – a 9-hole and an 18-hole.
  • To maintain the caliber of golfers required to play at the premium tier golf courses we have selected, players must have:
    • A maximum handicap index of 35 to play in the 18-hole league
    • A maximum handicap index of 20 to play in the 9-hole league
    • *The Eastern Shore Chapter Board sets these handicap indexes.
  • Handicap indexes maintained by EWGA are based on 18 holes.
  • To determine your 9-hole handicap index, divide your EWGA handicap index by 2.
  • The handicap chairman in our chapter is Ellen Davies. If you have questions regarding handicaps, contact her at e.davies@mchsi.com
  • On Thursday, April 27th, we will pull your handicap index from the EWGA site, PLEASE be sure it is up to date.
  • If you keep your handicap index with another source, we will need a copy of your handicap index card emailed to Michele Doyle by Thursday, April 27th.
  • Special Activity for this year! We will be playing a challenge Match Play (for fun of course!) with the Maryland Travel League. We hope this will become an annual event with the hosting being alternated to give all an opportunity to play “out of state”. This year’s challenge will be held at Bayside on June 8th. Both 18 and 9-hole challenges will be played.
  • When finished playing each week, sign your scorecards and return them to either of our Tri-Captains, or her designee.

Weekly EVITE/RSVP :

The EWGA’s ability to obtain preferred rates at premium courses depends upon our commitment to tee times obtained from the golf courses. Golf courses count on the income from our guaranteed tee times, so it is imperative that the following rules are followed.

  • Every Saturday you will receive an Evite regarding details about league play for the following week. PLEASE RSVP either YES or NO by 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday of that week.
  • Make sure to check the weather BEFORE signing up and know your comfort level. There were a lot of last minute cancellations last year despite predicted warm temperatures or rain (see Rain Policy below).
  • Be sure to hit the “reply” button on the bottom of the Evite page so that your response is recorded.
  • There is no cutoff for the number of league members. However, you will be informed as to the number of tee times allotted that day and there will be a first-come, first-served signup. If allotted 5 tee times, the first 20 players to sign up will play that week. Please note that guests are welcome per EWGA guidelines, but EWGA Eastern Shore members will be assigned tee times first. If we have available tee times for a guest, you will be advised after sign-ups close for that particular week.
  • Players must RSVP with number of holes you wish to play. (refer to maximum handicap index). If your “number of holes” is not included, your place in the RSVP line will not be recorded until we received your choice.
  • No Changes or additions will be made after 12:00 noon on Wednesday.
    • It’s time consuming to put the foursomes together and can be cumbersome to make changes.
    • If changes are to be made before the deadline, texting is the best way to communicate this.
    • If for some reason you need to cancel, please call the Pro Shop no later than 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning and text the Tri-Captain who has sent the Evite that week.
    • Your cooperation on this will be greatly appreciated. If you do not call and are a “no show” more than twice, your league membership will be cancelled.
    •

Networking...a primary goal of EWGA :

  • To allow for networking and social opportunities, we will attempt to mix players when setting up foursomes each week. PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST PLAYING COMPANIONS.
  • IF you find someone that you really like playing with, set up a time to play together at any of the courses that generously offer an EWGA rate.
  • For those who wish to do so, we will be socializing somewhere close by each course for a cocktail and/or light fare immediately following completion of the day’s game.
  • We are planning to play various games throughout the season, and prizes will be given out at the end of play at the club restaurant. More info to follow in Evites.
  •

End of Season prizes: The DE Travel League competition/end of the season prizes, as provided from Eastern Shore membership, will be based on at least 50% of weeks played between June 1 and August 31 (14 weeks). This means you must play AT LEAST 7 out of 14 games of either 9 or 18 holes. Since we are considered “two” leagues, we will have a prize for both leagues.

Guest policy: Members are allowed to bring guests throughout the season - please see bullet number 4 under Evite for parameters. Any 1 guest may come only twice.

Rain Policy: Light rain...we will golf! If there is lightning or a heavy downpour, golf will be canceled. If in doubt, call the course being played. A decision to cancel will be made prior to the first tee-off on the day of golf.

Golf Etiquette and Rules:

  1. Play ready golf.
  2. To keep pace of play, everyone is expected to pick up at double par.
  3. Record your score when you get to the next hole.
  4. Don’t talk when you or someone else is taking a stroke.
  5. Carry the clubs you’ll most likely use when approaching your ball. This is especially important when playing cart path only.
  6. Hit as soon as the group ahead of you is out of range.
  7. Drop your cart partner off at her ball or park between your two balls.
  8. Hit a provisional ball whenever you think your ball may have gone out of bounds.
  9. Park the cart toward the back of the green.
  10. Cell phone use is highly discouraged. Only in times of emergency will cell phone use be acceptable.
